Nancy's own comments:

hmmmmmm

I just don't know...my recorder at home is broken..so I would have to submit something not
fully mixed..but it shouldn't be just the mix...
lyrics and the feeling of the song...so what do
I want to share with my friends here in our
little forum contest...?

Something new? Something old? Something old could be something that has already won here at
JLSC and would not be in need critiquing...so that would be going back, not forward..
Spiritual or heartmusic? Okay..a decision on something new :-) ...(love song not spiritual lol)

*I looking at an old picture of a
special friend in 1970, I found in my stack of memories in my music room..a pic of one of my dearest heartmates that was sent to Vietnam, but in Hawaii on furlow...it was the look in this
picture that inspired this song...
It was his earthen-brown eyes that were sad because he was not with me...

LOST AND FOUND

(extremely "retroflective" to me....)
.....
I am not too happy about the sound reproduction
on mp3...but I can't correct it with a broken
8 track recorder....hope you enjoy...kick back and go back to 1969-1970 with me...the best days
of my life...

You're very talented Nancy. However, the song was a little blah and complex. It seems like you have all the right ingredients to write a really excellent folk song. Your melody should be a little simpler. Apply the same concept to music that the Shakers did to furniture. It should flow a little easier. You shouldn't have to work so hard to write music. It should write itself. Very Zen don't you think? I loved your nature pictures!

The 12-string is really appropriate for the style, I don't know about the double vocals though. The vocals are very good, however. The melody could be developed even more - it stays in one area a lot of the time.

Got an echo effect listening to it...but this is really pretty good.....I might sing the title line with a bit more pizazz...maybe higher...but definitely redo this one...it's the best I've heard of your songs...with some production..a keeper.

Really liked the lyrics on this one. Great guitar/mandy playing, but I would have liked a significant change-up somewhere in the song. Good vocals as well.

You have a bit of a Grace Slick vibe to your vocal style in fact the song feels like an old Jefferson Airplane track. Lyircally this is one of the stronger entries in the competition, great job.

The song seemed to drag a bit towards the end and started feeling a bit flat. Would love to hear things changed up a bit with a key change, up tempo bridge etc.

Overrall this is a great entry!

Vox is very good...good harmony
Mix is extremely low however....
percussive snaps with verb outweigh your vox...

The song itself is very cool lyrically...however musiclly...even with your different alliterations vocally...it is the same music for verse and chorus...

It's a really nice song, Nans. Very catchy tune and beat, with heart-felt lyrics. The gentle instrumentation and harmonies really enhance these lyrics. Beautiful.

Nice little slice of Americana! Music has a nice flow to it. I love the lyrics. Double tracking on the vocals works for this song!

Like the lyrics in this one a lot; it's got a good sentiment and flow to it. Obviously you've 'connected' and are writing about something real; which is something I find hard to do a lot of the time. Backing is gorgeous (as always!) - understated yet intricate, pretty yet not sappy. Melodically I do find this song a little bit directionless & meandering; I feel like it needs to go somewhere more definite- a few highs and lows perhaps, or something a bit more catchy/memorable for the listener to latch onto. I'm also not too sure about the chorusing on the main vocal. But overall a very nice effort; you have a sound a feel that's all your own. (which is a good thing, I mean!)

Nice melody and lyrics, but instrumentation needs to be louder -- kind of in background, hard to hear. Also, I would single track the voice -- the double tracking is somewhat distracting. You have a very pleasant voice though.
