JUDGES'S GENERAL COMMENTS

Todd:

Here y'all go. Thanks for putting this together, Christy. We got a lot of really tallented people floating aroung out there, so I took your suggestion and used the ".25" increments.

Bobbio:

Okay....dare I do this?...Yes I dare...please keep in mind that I'm into "hooks" & "melodies" so lyrics tend to take a backseat...especially if they're abstract.....

Meikow:

Sorry for the delay, heres the rest of my scores. I am amazed at the talent here and honored to be compared with any of the artist here..

Markus:

So don't care too much about my critiques. I swear, they would be totaly different if I listened to the songs the other day! (My) Opinions and taste are just partly constant in time :-) Thanks to all who have been spending their time on this. Special thanks to Christina!

Nancy G:

First of all, these songs all carry a common thread. They are thoughts molded into sound, then chords and words with the hope of being received as beautiful as the first time you thought of writing the song. Did I get my song delivered to the listener properly? Honestly, all I am is a good listener. I am in not way a judge.

Hey, I am the only girl commenting...hmmmm...

As you know I write and record Heartmusic... alternative folk...so I might have a different view of your songs...I need the songs to touch
my heart and hold me. That
is what I long for in a song. I want a song to embrace me. I need "holding".

Harry Francis:

First, I apologize for not getting to everyone's songs. Busy busy busy... Some of you didn't have any streaming audio so I opted not to judge those only because of time. Second, I judge these from where I come from as an artist/songwriter...with my "specialty" being pop/rock music. But I do the best I can to forget production and focus on what the song is. Some production things can't be overlooked...like out of tune vocals or instruments. Other things can be overlooked...like vocal levels or guitar levels in the mix.

We all need to keep in mind that each of these critiques are just "one a@@hole's opinion" as they say in the music business. Take from them something, or take from them nothing.

Doogle:

Sorry if you think I've been too harsh, I'm in a bad mood at the moment.

Hazelglow:

Hi everyone, so here's my critiques.

[fyi Christina, I still think there's too many entries; I would've liked to have given each song more attention rather than spreading it so thin. Plus it's hard to keep so many in your head at the same time in order to try to be correctly relative about all the scores. My head hurts!]

First up, I have to say I'm not here to be nice. Anybody who's seen my attempts judging before will already know that I don't seem to score anybody particularly high! No sugar coating, I'm not doing anyone a service unless I'm giving you my honest response, as inexpert as it may be. So, if you don't like what I said, please remember it's well intended and it's only one person's opinion at the end of the day.

And, it hasn't escaped my notice that plenty of the things I have criticised here I am guilty of in my own writing and performing! But I guess that's no surprise, we do tend to see in everybody else what we need to be addressing in ourselves...

My own personal bents
- I am moved by strong, lyrical melodies
- I like to be taken on a journey
- I get bored easily
- A song should never be hard work to listen to

So, having said all that - here goes...

- Haze.

JimmyZ:

I think everyone made a great effort and it was fun to judge. I wasn't real wordy on my critiques because I wanted to judge every song and there were alot. Wished I had more time but I will say this, the songs that were structured well and had musical and lyrical hooks were the ones I wanted to listen to again. That is just my take/my taste. Thank you.

Sand:

OK, do your best to ignore me whenever necessary since I get very picky about voice and lyrics.
Most of the songs sounded great in many respects and left a lot of room for me to learn. The rank reflects on how I compare each song with the others much better than the reviews do, obviously. Also keep in mind, that as far as
"a-holes with their opinions" (as Harry put it) go - I've tried to be the worst one.

Painter:

Okay. I'm going to be honest in all ways. I don't need to play Simon for any reason and I'll tell you what I do and don't like. *Disclaimer* the critiques made are not representitive of me, my other personality or the haispray I use. Don't get pissed off and don't take what I say as a bad thing. You were all awesome (yes, I still use that word). And forgive me for my spelling! Gosh this was hard- I's need a drink.
