INFORMATION ON ENCODING AUDIO FILES TO WMA
The information given here assumes you will be using the program dBpowerAmp.
You may download this program and all the required codecs from www.dbpoweramp.com.
You can download many codecs but from Codec Central (see the dbpoweramp web site) but at the very least you must download those for wma files.
Follow the instructions given at the site for installing the dBpowerAmp Music Converter program, and for all the extra codecs that you download.
When you want to convert an audio file, you execute the dbpoweramp program which will start like this (but you will have to navigate among your folders to find the one wehre you have your original audio file):
Highlight the file name (in this case it's the .wav file) and click Open. Because of the codecs I have selected to install, my options are as follows (the order is not important). Click on Windows Media Audio V9.
The following window will open where you will have to modify the various fields to put in the values as I have them:
I chose 32 kbps, 22kHz, stereo CBR. You may choose a bit rate up to about 48 kbps, 32kHz, (or 32 kbps, 44kHz) stereo CBR in order to keep the file as small as possible. Any higher than that, anybody with a dial-up internet connection will have buffering problems.
Click Convert and you will have this image:
Click Finished. The wav file has been converted to wma and is in the same folder as the original wav file (in my case).
This file will be played by Windows Media Player (and some other player as well).
